COST SAVING The costs for the calibration of one pipette is approximately 1/3 of their purchase price. Let's assume the costs for the calibration at an external laboratory are 40,00 Euro/pipette (single-channel pipette variable). Costs for transportation and additional things such as e.g. packaging material and administration must be added. According to the boards of weights and measures and the manufacturers recommendation, pipettes should be calibrated at regular intervals (2 to 4 times per year). The outcome of this is that the main costs at the calibration are the inspection time and the down time. A reduction of calibration costs (at adherence to the rules according to ISO 8655) is only possible by a reduction of the inspection time. IMPROVEMENT OF QUALITY FOR ALL MEASUREMENTS By the automated calibration process all variations and sources of error are reduced, which can result from an usual "manual measurement".
